Frank Lloyd Wright, Architect CLICK HERE for Griswold House CLICK HERE for Great Houses  The Dana House is designed in the Prairie Style and is more flowing home than other classic Prairie homes. The use of the gable instead of a hip roof, and several 2 story spaces makes the interior more dramatic than the Robie House. Rooms flow from one to another, and invite you to explore more areas of the house (if the tour guide would let you) A long windowed hallway leads to the the west wing which has the largest room in the house. There is an upper-level gallery which was used for musical entertaining, and a library below at ground-level. There are approximately 450 art-glass windows, light fixtures, and door panels, in the house, which are mostly original. The art glass is based on the Prairie summac pattern. Most of the original furniture, lighting, and other interior finishes are still in the home. It is a National Historic Landmark and is owned by the Illinois Historical Preservation Agency, a part of the Illinois State Government. Tours are available, but every so often State Budget cutbacks either limit or shut down touring of the home for a period of time. The link below is to the Dana House site.`    |
